In Colorado, we got our first snow of the season on September 8th, 2020. Yes, you read that correctly, *September* 8th! I recorded this video last week. xD Hit "read more" below the video to hear the story of how this project came to be. For the last few months, I've been doing part-time work on a ranch north of where I live, mostly making various improvements to the property such as cleaning out the old barn and removing old barbed wire fencing, but I've also been herding goats and most recently, cows. Since it's a bit of a distance away, I've taken to staying in our camping trailer for a few days a week to make things more efficient - hence the primary set of the video.
In a normal, wet year, it's unusual for us *not* to get our first snow before the end of October, but I can't even remember the last time we got it as early as the second week of September. I've wanted to record a cover of Let it Snow for quite a while now, but never settled on a way to do it that I was happy with. Well, when I found out we were supposed to get snow last week, I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity. It's always fun to see my east coast friends' faces when I talk about getting snow this early in year, and I thought making it would be a great way to share a little of what I've been up to lately at the same time. Ranch work has been such a breath of fresh air for me and it's really helped me stay sane through all the craziness going on in the world right now. Animals don't care about politics or current events or keeping up with the expectations of society. As long as they have food, shelter, and water, they're happy and they love you unconditionally. It's a good reminder of what's really important. I hope some of that came through and the video and maybe even cheered you up a little and improved your day. The irony is that this week we're right back up into the 80's again. "Winter" and weather in general around here is pretty strange, but we like it that way, haha.
